You may have heard the claims and are wondering if it’s applicable in your life. That curiosity is what led to our discovery of CBD and how we came to enjoy the benefits received in our own active lifestyles. Frankly, we love the stuff and encourage you to do some digging around the web and learn what we’ve discovered.
Our view is simple. If using CBD provides greater enjoyment of an active lifestyle by allowing our bodies to naturally recover quicker, without the use of prescription drugs or aspirin — why not benefit from its use?
CBD is short for cannabidiol. CBD has been shown to interact with the human body through the endocannabinoid system — a vast network of receptors which helps us maintain overall wellness and helps keep us in good health. Found in hemp, CBD is the most abundant of more than 80+ known naturally occurring cannabinoids. Specifically, CBD comes from the flowers and leaves of the plant. (Not to be confused with oil that comes from hemp seeds, which contain zero beneficial cannabinoids).
Cannabinoids are a group of fatty compounds found in hemp. They’re also produced by the human body. Cannabinoids are the primary chemical compounds produced by the cannabis plant. These compounds are key players in normal immune and central nervous system functioning. The endocannabinoid system (found within the human body) has natural receptors for these compounds and use cannabinoids to support cells and a healthy immune system, despite fluctuations in our external environment.
CBD is known for supporting the body and mind in many ways. Our bodies have a vast network of receptors, called the "Endocannabinoid System" its purpose is to help us stay balanced, even when challenged by external factors and certain lifestyle choices. CBD and other cannabinoids fit into these receptors helping us stay in good health by supporting many of the body’s natural physical processes.
The main difference between hemp and cannabis is the amount of THC (Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol). Cannabis contains THC, that’s the stuff responsible for producing a high. Hemp, on the other hand, produces no euphoric effects as it has less than 0.03% THC which is considered legal. All Keola products are made from hemp.
Numerous studies show CBD can promote natural recovery and aids in relaxation post exercise. There are also several ongoing studies looking to scientifically demonstrate anti-inflammation and pain mitigation effects of all cannabidiol compounds.
There are several ways to administer CBD, it really depends on your lifestyle and preference. So whether you prefer oils, capsules or a topical option, just do what works for you.
Ingestion (Soft-gel): The most common way to take CBD oil is to ingest it orally. When ingested, it passes through the digestive system and is metabolized by the liver which sends the active compounds to the bloodstream. This is the same manner in which most supplements, medications, and vitamins are administered.
Sublingual (Tincture): Administered sublingually, it is held under the tongue so that the mucous membranes can absorb the active ingredients of CBD oil delivering a portion to the bloodstream immediately. The remaining CBD oil is ingested providing the same benefits as soft-gels for extended effects. For quick relief tinctures work well.
Direct Application (Balm): Balm can hit a pain spot by targeting localized effects. Balms are designed to be applied locally onto the skin. The active ingredients are absorbed through the skin. Balm is ideal for those looking for isolated relief that can be applied directly to where needed most.
Full spectrum hemp products provide – in addition to the active CBD compound – a synergic effect that supplements and enhances the benefits of CBD for extra strength. The enhanced benefit has been widely recognized and has its own name: "The Entourage Effect." The entourage effect synergistically combines the benefits of other terpenes naturally found in full spectrum hemp to maximize potential benefits.
You may feel the effects as quickly as 10-15 minutes when sublingually administered, and up to an hour or two for oral ingestion. It’s important to note that when taking CBD orally for the first time it’s best to take consistently for at least three weeks to give your body adequate time to acclimate and respond. We have found most people report feeling the effects of our balm in as little as 15 minutes. It’s important to understand that there are many factors that impact the speed and efficiency of absorption. By experimenting you’ll find what works best for you.
Similar to anesthetics and analgesics, each person will metabolize and react differently to CBD. We recommend starting with a lower dose, and increasing as necessary.
Yep. Hemp is legal in the United States provided that the plant contains less than .3% THC by dry weight. All Keola products are derived from hemp and adhere to this standard.
The federal government considers cannabis with less than 0.3% to be hemp and therefore LEGAL. While unlikely, there’s always a small risk when subjecting oneself to employment tests while ingesting full spectrum hemp products immediately before a test or over long periods of time in relatively significant doses. We encourage all of our customers to decide for themselves the likelihood that they will be tested and what that particular test’s parameters are before taking our full-spectrum hemp products. Consult your physician for more information.
